Classic Summer Fun: Ice Cream Shops and Sweet Stops Across Michiana
One of the best summer activities to enjoy is a trip to an ice cream parlor or sweet shop. Not only is it lightyears better than what you'd get in a store, but a local shop also adds that friendly, personal touch to the experience. Michiana's Sweet Treats
South Bend Chocolate Cafe - South Bend, IN

Whether you want candy or ice cream, if it's chocolate, you'll find it at South Bend Chocolate Cafe. An offshoot of the South Bend Chocolate Company, near South Bend homes for sale, the cafe serves all the delicious treats from their factory, such as:
- Malt balls
- Toffee
- Fudge
Plus a full lunch menu with soups, sandwiches, and wraps. They also serve some of the best coffee in the area, fantastic hot chocolate, and an array of ice cream offerings, like their Blue Moon Float or their Dinosaur Egg Shake. And be sure to come Friday evenings for their Tiki Bar, with $3 beers, $5 wine, and live music!
Murphy's Ice Cream Shoppe

South Bend's newest spot for frozen treats is Murphy's Ice Cream Shoppe. Opened in 2024, they've got tons of amazing flavors, from mint Oreo to peanut butter cookie dough to blueberry cheesecake. Plus affogatos, root beer floats, and hot chocolate. Located in the Eddys Street Commons shopping center, check them out 1-9:30 p.m., seven days a week. It's the perfect summer stop for a cone and some coffee.
Mooey's Ice Cream - Middlebury, IN

There may be a line at Mooey's Ice Cream, but it's always worth the wait. This small, Amish-owned spot near Middlebury homes for sale has an array of amazing flavors, like their Pride-N-Joy coconut ice cream, inspired by the Almond Joy candy bar, or their hand-dipped lemon bar ice cream. You can have it in a variety of ways, including:
- Cups and cones
- Sundaes
- Banana Splits
And be sure to try their soft serve flavor of the week! Open Monday through Saturday, there's no indoor seating, but you can enjoy your ice cream in the peaceful Indiana woods around the shop. And be sure to say hi to Prince, their resident dog!
Chunk's Ice Cream - Buchanan, MI

At Chunk's Ice Cream, new and unique flavors are introduced each month. Try their John Deere Tracks - mint ice cream with buckeyes and chocolate - or their honey lavender. And you can't miss their Mackinaw Island ice cream, with fudge pieces and a butter fudge swirl. Gold Coast Ice Cream - St. Joseph, MI
